    The Adams obelisk is one of the few monuments signed by the makers, Campbell & Horigan.

    The Adams family plot is still surrounded by its circular stone fence. Groundskeepers hate these stone fences, but the South Side Cemetery has been less aggressive about removing them than most other cemeteries.

    Old Pa Pitt always wonders how much snickering there was at the monument dealer’s when this order came in. This is a typical Victorian obelisk with the dangerous pointy end heavily shrouded. Behind it is the even taller Adams obelisk.

    A heavily shrouded obelisk from about 1880, the drapery rendered in a chunky and abstract fashion. Old Pa Pitt sometimes wonders whether there is a certain amount of giggling at the undertaker’s whenever a customer named Coffin comes in.
