  • Homann Stump, South Side Cemetery

A large rustic stump with an open book that bears the names of Charles, Otto, and Julie Homann. There is room for many more names in the book, and the section of peeled-away bark on the stump  was never used. Two small rustic headstones mark individual graves; Otto died in 1902, and the inscription on the other headstone is not easily legible.

  • Rudel Obelisk, St. Paul’s Cemetery (Mount Oliver)

This monument was probably put up in about 1880, when Henry and Sophia lost two sons within three days of each other. It continued to accumulate inscriptions until 1956, and all four surfaces of the base are filled. Henry married twice: Sophia died in 1891, and his second wife, Mary, is also remembered here.

  • Niemann Mausoleum, Homewood Cemetery

    KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

A standard Ionic temple, undistinguished perhaps but very elegant.

  • Spanovich Monument, Smithfield East End Cemetery

An unusual Gothic canopy over an urn, the whole thing surmounted by a cross.

  • View in the Chartiers Cemetery

A view in one of the old sections of the cemetery shows the wide variety of styles and eras in the monuments.
